North Korea fires 2 short-range missiles toward the Sea of Japan

DELTASION.com – North Korea is known to have fired two short-range ballistic missiles on Tuesday (14/3/2023), toward the Sea of Japan. It was the second missile firing in three days.

The Joint Staff of the Washington and Seoul militaries detected two short-range ballistic missiles fired towards the East Sea, the missiles were fired from the Jangyon area in Hwanghae province at 7:41 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Tokyo was aware of the launch and that Tokyo was currently gathering information. There were no reports of damage from Pyongyang's firing of the missile.

Launch France 24, this month, Seoul's military said that special forces from the two allies were carrying out a joint exercise dubbed "Teak Knife", a joint exercise involving precision strikes on key North Korean facilities, up until the run-up to the Freedom Shield joint exercise.

Exercise Freedom Shield will focus on the security environment changing manifold as a result of North Korea's military aggression, the allies say.

Previously, the South Korean military said the Freedom Shield joint exercise would involve wartime procedures. That is to deter potential attacks from North Korea and will carry out a stabilization campaign in the North.

However, North Korea views the joint US-South Korean drills as a rehearsal for invasion. Pyongyang has repeatedly warned it will take extraordinary measures as a measure.

2. Japan will respond to North Korean missile fire

Launching the Japan Times, Japan's Defense Minister, Yasukazu Hamada, said on Tuesday that not a single missile fired by North Korea landed in Japan's exclusive zone.

On Tuesday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, who is also the government spokesman, said that Japan was preparing further acts of provocation over the action from North Korea.

"We believe there is a possibility that North Korea will step up further provocative actions, including missile launches and nuclear tests," Matsuno said.

He also added that Japan would continue to maintain cooperation with the US and South Korea over the military movements that had been carried out by North Korea.

3. More missiles will be launched by North Korea

Launch Punchng, Washington has repeatedly stated its strong commitment to continue to defend South Korea, including to use its nuclear military capabilities. Meanwhile, South Korea itself is eager to reassure its public that is anxious about the US commitment.

The US promised to expand deterrence for actions from North Korea, where Washington's military assets, including nuclear weapons, can be used to prevent attacks from enemies.

Analysts say North Korea will use the joint US-South Korean drills as an opportunity to conduct more missiles, possibly even a nuclear test.
